We are still crossing our fingers for a US visa waiver that has been in the works for the past couple of years. Our immigration department with the help of the US Department Homeland Security are pushing for it to happen with an expectancy to be ready by 2018.

There were some setbacks as the US government had tightened conditions for the programme following security concerns, emerged due to terror attacks in Europe and Turkey.

One of the conditions that need to be met is to lower the US visa rejection rate to below 3% with Malaysia’s figure standing at 3.34%.

Currently the Malaysian passport is ranked the fifth most powerful travel document in the world (sharing the spot with Austria, Luxembourg and Portugal), enabling them to travel 154 countries visa-free.
