All’s well that ends well as the saying goes. The Canon PhotoMarathon Malaysia 2018 had come to an end and it brought out many creative and skilful photography enthusiasts with 10 individuals and 3 groups emerging as winners of over RM 150,000 worth of prizes.

Organisers’ Perspective

Canon PhotoMarathon Malaysia 2018 saw over 1000 participants, of various backgrounds and skills, competing in the hopes of winning over RM 150,000 worth of prizes.

Andrew Koh, President and Chief Executive Officer of Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., expressed the company’s intention of continuing the tradition of cultivating a photography culture by providing a platform for photography aficionados to present their work hence reaching a wider audience.

Who The Judges Are

For the 12th year Canon PhotoMarathon Malaysia, the photos were assessed by three judges which were Bonnie Yap, Canon EOS Ambassador and travel photographer; Fazry Ismail, chief photographer of the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) in Malaysia; and Chai Kok Leong, an award winning Wedding Portrait Photographers Asia ambassador. A consensus was made that the competition saw some of the most stunning photos.

Meet The Winners!

33-year-old Mohd Safuan Salahudin from Kedah won the Open Category’s grand prize of an all-expenses-paid photography trip to Japan to participate in the Canon PhotoMarathon Asia Championship as well as the newly launched Canon EOS R mirrorless camera.

Meanwhile in the Student Category, 18-year-old Darren Lee Tze Huei won first place followed by 9-year-old Aliyah Zainad and 7-year-old Muhammad Adam Mikhael bin Mohd Hafizan in second and third place respectively. Aliyah and Adam shined as the youngest ever winners in Canon PhotoMarathon Malaysia.

Making its debut this year, the Inter-Varsity Challenge saw over 90 teams from 20 institutions of higher learning competing for the splendid prizes. The first prize was won by Management and Science University. Meanwhile, University Selangor and Sunway University won the second and third prizes respectively.

Be A Canon Youth Ambassador

The recruitment for the second edition of the Canon EOS Youth Ambassador programme will be from 20 October 2018 to 30 November and is open to all Malaysian aged between 15 to 30 years old.
